Not accessible to comman people for swimming, boating and adventurous rides, but it could be small family picnic point. Jungle safari park is slightly costlier, time consuming and requires planning, but it is unique. Dam size is large and it is surrounded by dense forest, so swimming can not be enjoyed. Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj memoriam is recently constructed adds beauty to the place. Solute to the rajashri CSM for vision.

It is old masonry dam built started by Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Kolhapur. It was started in 1908 and completed in 1957. The automatic gates are still in working condition. When the water level rises above FRL the gates start to open automatically and the additional water is discharged into river Bhagavati. When the water drops down to a certain level, the gates close automatically. For this purpose a counter weight is used to balance the gates. The dam is an example of a great engineering structure. The water is let in the river to feed up a series of KT weirs which irrigate the crops on banks of Bhogavati river and Panchganga river. Nature here is beautiful and there is forest area. In dam submergence we can see Benazir villa on a hillock which is surrounded by water.

breathtaking view point for monsoon special travels. You can be the luckiest person if you are able to witness the opening or closing of the self operated automatic gates installed (first time in India). This dam carries a legacy of Ch. Shri Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur city where the idea of installation of automatic gates was coined by Shri Visvesraya himself. Amazing place to treat your eyes and soul.
